"Encrypted" appears on every security page on the internet — here's what it concretely means for a document you send through Inkfree. 

On the Wire: TLS 1.2+ 

From the moment you start an upload to the moment your signer's browser renders the page, every byte travels through TLS 1.2 or higher. Anyone intercepting the traffic sees ciphertext. 

At Rest: AES-256 

Stored documents are encrypted with AES-256 — the standard trusted by banks and governments, with no practical attack known. A hypothetical intruder reaching the storage layer would find encrypted blobs, not readable contracts. 

After Completion: Cryptographic Sealing 

When the final signature lands, the document is sealed with digital-signature technology. Change one character afterward and the seal breaks visibly — this is what makes an Inkfree PDF trustworthy years later. 

Around It All 

Encryption keys are managed separately from document storage, access to systems is logged, and SOC 2 Type II audits verify the whole arrangement continuously.
