Recipient Identity Verification Options
An emailed link proves someone has access to an inbox — sometimes you need more. Inkfree lets you choose, per signer, how strictly identity is verified before they can even view the document.
The Three Levels
1. No security — the emailed link is sufficient. Right for low-risk, everyday documents where the email address itself is trusted.
2. Email OTP — Inkfree sends a one-time passcode to the signer's email; they enter it before the document opens. This proves active control of the mailbox at signing time, not just receipt of a forwarded link.
3. Access Code — you set a code and share it through a different channel (phone call, SMS, chat). The signer must enter it to open the document. Strongest option: intercepting the email alone is no longer enough.
How to Set It
On the Approvers and Signers step, open the security dropdown on each signer's row and pick the level. Mixed levels are fine — your own employee at No security, the external party at Access Code.
Why It Matters Legally
The verification method and its outcome are recorded in the audit trail and the certificate of completion. If a signature is ever disputed, "the signer entered a code sent to their verified email" is strong evidence.
