How to Set Custom Permissions for Team Members

Aug 3, 20262 min read

The built-in Admin role is all-or-nothing — custom roles are where real organizations live. Build one per job function and assignment becomes trivial.

Steps

1.  Open Settings → Roles and click Create Role

2.  Name it after the function, not the person — "Sales Sender", "HR Coordinator", "Finance Viewer".

3.  Toggle the permissions the function needs, resource by resource:

•  Can they send sign requests? Delete them? Just fetch/view

•  Should they create templates, or only send from existing ones?

•  Do they need contacts access? Billing

4.  Save, then assign the role to members in Settings → Teams

What Restricted Members Experience

Pages beyond their role show a clear "You don't have access" notice rather than broken screens — people always understand it's policy, not a bug.

Role Design Tips

•  Fewer roles, clearly named, beats one role per person.

•  Review roles when processes change — permissions drift out of date exactly like templates do.
