How to Set a Document Expiration Date
An open-ended sign request is a to-do item that never expires — for you. Deadlines create urgency and keep your pipeline clean.
Steps
1. In the request settings before sending, set the expiration date — 30 days is a common default; use less for time-sensitive offers.
2. Send. The expiry appears on the request detail page ("Expires: Sep 15, 2026").
What Happens at Expiration
• Signing links stop working immediately.
• The request is marked Expired and pending signers can no longer act.
• You're notified, and the audit trail records the expiration.
If It Expires Too Soon
Duplicate the request (menu → Duplicate request), extend or remove the expiry, and resend. Note that signatures don't carry over — anyone who signed the expired request signs again.
Note: Automatic expirations are available on the Basic plan and above.
Tip: Pair every expiration with automatic reminders — deadline plus nudges is the combination that actually gets documents signed.
