Fixing a Document That Expired Before It Was Signed

Jul 30, 20261 min read

The expiration did its job — it closed a stale request. Now relaunch it properly; recovery takes two minutes.

Steps

1.  Open the expired request and choose menu (⋮) → Duplicate request — documents, recipients, fields, and settings all carry over into a fresh draft.

2.  Extend the expiration this time (or remove it) in the request settings.

3.  Turn on automatic reminders if they weren't — expiry without reminders is how requests die quietly.

4.  Send.

What Doesn't Carry Over

Signatures. Anyone who signed the expired request signs the new one again — each request is its own sealed record. Mention it in your message ("apologies for the re-send — the previous request lapsed") and nobody minds.

Preventing the Repeat

Set your default expiration and reminder cadence in Settings → Document Settings so every future request chases itself before the deadline hits.
