Why Is My Uploaded File Failing to Process?

Jul 30, 20261 min read

Upload rejected or stuck processing? It's nearly always the file itself — four checks, in order of frequency.

1. Password Protection

A password-protected PDF can't be read by the processor. Remove the password (your PDF tool's Security settings, or print-to-PDF a clean copy) and re-upload.

2. Corruption

A file that half-downloaded or came off a failing drive won't process. Re-export from the source application — don't retry the same broken bytes.

3. Format

Inkfree supports PDF, Word (.doc/.docx), text (.txt), spreadsheets (.xls/.xlsx), and common image formats such as JPG, PNG, GIF, TIF, and HEIC. Simply upload your file and prepare it for signing—no PDF conversion is required for these supported formats.

4. Size

Oversized files are rejected at the limit shown on the upload screen. Compress the PDF (any "reduce file size" tool) or split it into logical parts.

Tip: A file that fails repeatedly after all four checks is genuinely unusual — send it to support (or a few pages of it) and we'll diagnose the specific structure that's tripping the processor.
