Troubleshooting Web Forms
Most web form problems come down to one of three things: the plan, the template behind the form, or a field that has nothing to map to. Work down the section that matches the message you are seeing.
Web Forms Is Missing or Locked
Web forms are included on the Business plan. On plans that do not include them, the sidebar entry is unavailable and the send-time controls appear with a padlock next to them.
Check what your current plan covers. If your plan does include web forms but the controls are still locked, an administrator may have turned the feature off for your organization, and the tooltip on the padlock will say so.
A Template Was Rejected When I Selected It
Inkfree checks a template the moment you pick it and refuses it with a specific reason.
"This template has no signers assigned. Please add signers to the template first." A form is completed by a signer, so the template needs at least one. Edit the template and add the recipients who sign. CC recipients do not count, because they have nothing to fill in.
"This template has no fields. Web Forms require a template with fillable fields." There is nothing for the form to ask. Add the fields that signer needs to complete, then try again.
"Some fields in this template are missing Data Labels. Please edit the template, assign Data Labels to all fields, and try again." At least one field has no label. Open the template, select each field, and fill in the label in the Field Data section of the field properties panel.
The Form Will Not Save
"Missing Data Label! Please assign a Data Label to the Text field. Select the form and update its properties." A field in the designer has no Data Label. The message names the field type so you know what to look for. Select the form block in the designer and set the label in its properties, then save again.
This matters because the Data Label is the link between the form and the document. Inkfree writes each answer into the document field carrying the same label, so a field without one has no destination.
"Field Not Linked to Template" You added a field by hand and the template has no matching field for it. The dialog offers Edit Template, which opens the template in a new tab at the field-placement step. Add the field for that signer and save, and Inkfree syncs the change back into the open designer, confirming with Template updates synced successfully!
You can also save the form anyway. The question is still asked and the answer is still stored with the submission, it just will not appear on the document. That is a reasonable choice for a question you only need for routing or triage. Full detail is in how to design and save a web form.
I Cannot Create Any More Forms
"Web form limit exceeded. Upgrade your plan to create more web forms." Each plan sets how many web forms an account can hold. Delete a form you no longer use from the Web Forms list, or move to a plan with a higher allowance.
The Web Forms Section Is Missing When I Send
Web forms are only offered on requests created from a template. If you started the request by uploading a file, there is no template to match a form against and the section does not appear. Start the request from the template instead.
No Form Is Offered for a Signer
"No web forms are available for this template." No form has been built from this template yet. See how to create a web form from a template.
"No web form available for this signer." Forms are tied to one signer role. A form built for the client role is not offered to the guarantor. Build a second form against the same template and pick the other role when you get to the signer step.
A Signer Signed Without Using the Form
That is expected behavior, not a fault. The notification email carries both the fill-and-sign link and the normal signing link. If someone uses the signing link first, the form is recorded as skipped and they complete the fields on the document instead. Nothing is lost and the document is signed normally.
Still Stuck
If the message you are seeing is not covered here, or a form behaves differently from what this article describes, contact the support team with the form name and the template it was built from.
Questions, answered.Everything you need to know about Troubleshooting Web Forms
Web forms are included on the Business plan. If your plan does not include them, the sidebar entry and the send-time options are unavailable, and related controls show a padlock.
A template can only carry a form if it has at least one signer, has fillable fields, and every one of those fields has a Data Label. Inkfree names which of the three is missing when you select it.
It is the field's label, set in the Field Data section of the field properties panel in the template editor. Inkfree uses it to match a form answer back to the right field on the document.
Forms are tied to one signer role. If nothing is offered for a recipient, no form has been built for that particular role on this template.
Each plan sets how many web forms an account can hold. Delete a form you no longer need, or move to a plan with a higher allowance.
